Long Holiday Weekend

The Best Laid Plans of …

As they say, the best laid plans do not always work out and, given how the weather is wont to do Her own thing these days. Our plans to go see 1200 vintage cars at the Montmorency Falls just outside Québec City—that includes a spectacular view across the river—were dashed. The forecast was for violent rainstorms from noonish onwards.

So, being ever flexible and, of course, not wanting to walk up and down lines of cars, in the rain, in muddy fields, we went to Plan B. It’s always good to have a Plan B on hand. Especially as we live in one of the most beautiful little cities on the planet. There is no lack of places and monuments to go visit, and enjoy a latte with a view.

Well, we went down into the Old Post and, while it remained heavy and overcast, the forecast rain never arrived. And we found time to not only have morning coffee and cake, but later, after walking our legs off, we also found room for pasta! Our excuse, all the fresh air.

Some highlights of our day out, walking. [click on the images to see full size.]

  1. What a lovely walk you had, Alex! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I’m so glad that the weather held enough so that you could enjoy your day. It sounds fabulous. And you’re right: it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B…

Ah, thank you, Margot, we had a lovely day out despite the heavy weather. We still got our exercise and some fresh air, walking. And saw some fun sights as seen in our photos.

Thanks, Sandra. Yes, it’s a hidden gem of a city. And I am so lucky to live here!

  2. Love that pig, Alexandra! The overcast skies highlighted the warmth and tint of the colors, acting as a large defuser filter. I share porcine envy.

It was so funny to see the Pig, Kenny! As it’s an advert in a literal sense for a restaurant. The Cochon Dingue is a chain here, in QC. And, as you can imagine, quite popular with hungry critters!

Isn’t he just, Veronica! We have some fun, and silly little critters like Pig all over the city. I’ll have to try find more. 😉
